I wonder how many NYC foster families are required to evacuate right now?
Growing-up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, hurricane preparedness was routine. However, I was instantly transformed from emergency rescue worker to to a very needy and vulnerable population member when I got a foster kid. I could no longer run out the door and through the rain with my Go Bag. I now had a Go Bag, Go KID, and Go LUGGAGE SET OF ESSENTIALS - just to walk out the door on a regular day.
The idea of taking a kid to a shelter, keeping their butts clean, feeding them with no way to heat milk or food, ENTERTAINING THEM and God forbid if it’s really hot or cold outside…
I’d love to see an Emergency Supply Kit as part of the requirements for foster homes and parents’ homes prior to reunification. Mainly what’s needed are just empty milk jugs filled with water.
